Lumbar decompression

What is it?
Decompression is a non-invasive, non-surgical way to treat a variety of spinal problems.  It requires you to lie on a table while a computerized motor decompresses your spinal column.

What it does.
Decompression mobilizes the joints and creates a wider opening for the important structures of your spinal column.

Why it works.
There are several factors that play a role in the success that decompression provides.  One is that joints require motion to live and function properly.  When joints stop moving, they can become painful and inflamed.  Decompression helps mobilize all the joints in your spinal column to restore their function and therefore reduce your pain.  Another way it helps, is to increase the actual space for structures in your spinal column.  As we age, our vertebral disk space can get smaller.  This closes down the space has that your nerves have.  This can cause inflammation and irritation, which is painful.  You can sometimes feel this go down your leg or into your hip.  Decompression helps to open that space up and push out some of the inflammation.  Unfortunately, you can never regain your original disk height and therefore cannot keep this space open.  However, decompression will give you body an opportunity to heal.

What it helps with.
Sciatica
Leg pain
Disc problems
Arthritis
And more

Combination therapy.
Decompression must be used in combination with other therapies in order to be successful.  Exercises specific for the treatment area must be prescribed in order to help stabilize the joints.  Without it, decompression will just provide temporary relief.  Hands on adjustments must also sometimes be used to make sure the joints are moving properly.
